　　屈才：a great talent gone to waste

　　有时候也作“屈才”，这处译为a great talent gone to waste，除此以外，我们还常译为big talent wasted on a petty job; not do justice to one's talents。同类表现还有“大材小用(do work unworthy of one's talents)”。“大材”等同于“大才”，习性上译为great talent。例如：He is a great talent。(他是个了不起的人材。)

　　我们再来看看talent的用处，talent往往统指“能力”或“有能力的许多人”。如：

　　one's talent as a film actor

　　某人作为电影演员的禀赋/能力。“屈才”怎么翻译？

　　a talent是“一种能力”，talents是“多种能力”，都指智力而不指身体的力量。如：

　　烟圈：smoke ring

　　“烟圈”译为smoke ring，smoke单独用时一般统指“烟”，不指“一缕烟”。“一缕烟”应当说成a cloud of smoke，说不得a smoke，由于a smoke指“一次吸烟”或“用来驱虫的一次熏烟”。如：
